Strawberry Festival

Deane Winthrop House, Winthrop, MA

This watercolor was painted on occasion of the 100th Anniversary year of the 1903 founding of the Winthrop Improvement Association, now the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association, WIHA. For over 95 years, WIHA has been sponsoring an annual fundraising Strawberry Festival. This panoramic painting depicts that venerable event at one of America’s oldest houses, the Deane Winthrop House (circa 1637-75) and its adjacent barn. Over twenty recognizable members, both living and deceased, are depicted who have been instrumental in sustaining the WIHA’s century-long tradition of maintaining the country’s architectural treasure, the Deane Winthrop House.
