Saturday’s Shadow-Centre Pharmacy
Hingham, MA
An everyday pedestrian view of this small Centre’s iconic buildings, I was struck by this dynamic composition through the narrow frame of storefront columns. The forced perspective along the façades provided a strong rectangular exposure of the planes of the building’s shapes and cupola. The sides of the building with their complimentary maroon and green colors, the facing shape of the sign, the converging underside of the projecting curved porch roof, contrasted with the negative space of the street, the park vista and the brilliant blue summer sky. A framing counterpoint of curves and colors, the festive flag was also contrasted with the many rectilinear elements of the building and suggested the busy activity of this center. The completed image became the symbol for a local gallery’s specially themed show about the Centre.
