Sunset Symphony in Sea Marsh
Winthrop, MA
A spectacular vista from an elevated location, the broad panoramic sweep over this protected marshland was enveloped in this dramatic sunset view – with the sky’s soft yellow, orange and pink glow. The wild vegetation at marsh’s edge showed colors of its natural state with the higher trees breaking the sky line.
The thin water channels, reflecting the bright light, become secondary focal points to the sky. The skyline encompasses the Madonna Queen tower, profiles of the Mystic River Bridge, Charlestown’s Bunker Hill monument, the cluster of downtown Boston’s high rises and Logan Airport’s control tower, as evidenced by the silhouetted jet. The title is a tribute to the imaginative sensibilities of James McNeil Whistler, who correlated the color in his paintings to the colors one “hears” in music.
